Job Beason Park in Oak Island was hopping with Easter activities on Saturday, April 23. Close to 200 children, from 6 months to 73 years of age, enjoyed the First Annual Oak Island Easter Parade and community Easter Egg Hunt.
The parade was sponsored by Recipe for Recovery and was the vision of team member, Vickie Dearman. Vickie stated “My mother, “Me-Maw, aka Dolores Dearman was, and is, my inspiration. I know she was watching and smiling. As soon as I saw my new golf cart, I knew what she would do - my mother would glue an egg to that bad boy and have herself a parade. When my brother, Rusty Dearman broke out his
glue gun and decorated his lawnmower, I knew she was doing flips.”
Constables Donnie Standley and C.R. Oldham graciously took time from their own family Easter festivities to escort the many children on the parade route.
